project 18: sunglasses case tutorial!

< BLOG

I’m one of those irresponsible types that tries really hard to be responsible. This leads to things like buying 5 pairs of sunglasses a year because I can’t keep track of them, they fall and break (don’t look at my phone… I’m really surprised it’s lasted this long), or the lenses get all scratched up. Last week, I bought a new pair, and it seemed like its fate was doomed like the others, but instead, it has a new home in this new case. I shared the tutorial here with you because taking care of the things we have should always be in vogue.

It may take a little more effort, but those few extra minutes really save you so much time and money in the long run… not to mention cutting down on the new things we buy, helping us consume a little less. I’m working on taking better care of the items I own, because as I mentioned in this post, things are much more disposable now, and items once revered are now tossed in the trash without a second thought. Being conscious of what we buy and care for can sometimes make a world of a difference. I know I’m going to try to be more thankful for the simple objects in my life and the purpose they serve. It may not be a revolution, but the small things really add up in the end. It just takes a lot of people making their own small changes. Who’s with me?

Simple Sunglasses Case Tutorial:

Peek-A-Boo

  • piece of felt that when folded over is at least 3/4 inch wider than the width of your glasses
  • sewing pins
  • embroidery needle
  • small button
  • scissors
  • embroidery thread

Directions:

step 1

Step 1: Fold your piece of fabric in half

step 2

Step 2: Pin your fabric on two open sides.

step 3

Step 3: Sew inverted blanket stitch on the two pinned sides. If you’re not sure how, here is a great tutorial!

step 4

Step 4: Sew on your button.

*Make sure to give yourself some space for the loop to fit around!

step 5

Step 5: Create a loop to hold your sunglasses – Sew embroidery thread through the back of the case (without securing it with a knot), and loop it around the button. Make sure that it’s loose enough to fit around the button and off again. Bring the thread back through the same hole in the back of the case. Tie the two ends together in the inside of the case. Tie a knot on the outside of the case to keep the loop from slipping. (There should be one on each side of the fabric right next to each other)

fin!

Put in your sunglasses and you’re ready to go!

Now you’re ready for summer and a chance battle between your keys and your lenses! Let’s head to the beach with our summer bag and bikini top too!

Let me know if you have any questions! I’d love to see your creations!
