Hello all and happy Wednesday!
I hope you enjoyed your long Memorial Day weekend (if you’re reading from the U.S.). I know we definitely did. My hunky man and I traveled to the valley to experience a little more heat and we sure took advantage of it! Kayaking, rock climbing and dancing the night away… let’s just say some very fun-filled days. Its crazy to think that only yesterday I was sporting a bathing suit, enjoying the Sacramento heat, to now being huddled with a blanket in front of the heater back here in San Francisco.
It may not be a bathing suit weather but the fog always inspires knitted appreciation. I feel very thankful for these warm socks that my mom and I dubbed the “million-dollar socks”. The project was so slow-moving that she said if I were to sell them I would have to list them for 1 million dollars just for the labor. Two months and many callused fingers later, I possess my very own pair of couture socks.
Done up in magic loop method, these socks are exactly the same length and size. From what I’ve read, it takes a little longer than DPNs, but the result are two socks finished at the same time. This project is very mobile and I highly recommend it for knitters on the go. This is the free pattern I used from KnitPicks.
Although it seemed like an eternity, the time (well) spent gave me time to reflect on how much I expect most things to be quick and painless, and how instant-gratification can cause a loss of appreciation. Some personal investment in and patience for anything adds so much value to our lives and allows us to live with more thankfulness. I’m so happy I made these socks and there will surely be more in the future… just maybe I’ll wait a little.
Speaking of thankfulness, I would like to wish very happy birthday to the best person I know. You are kind, generous, smart and funny. I feel overwhelming gratitude for your love and support. Thank you for always bringing me out of my comfort zone in the best of ways!
Thanks for reading and I look forward to your comments! Also be sure to check out my Etsy store here!
That’s what I love about the Bay Area: it’s always knitting weather 🙂 Congratulations on your lovely weekend with your guy and finishing the socks!!!
Thanks so much! Today was especially great for knitting 🙂
Agreed! IT was perfect for trying to figure out the shawl I’ve gotten tangled up in.
I saw that! Will it be finished this time next year or so?
Sorry, I weirdly missed your question 🙁 I should hope it’s finished sooner than that 😀
